Emergency Water
Filtration & Desalination

Backpacking continues to be a very popular activity throughout North America and the world. Besides a compass, map, comfortable hiking boots and a durable backpack one of the most important items that backpackers need to survive is water and a way to purify it. Without enough water, the muscles and organs of backpackers cannot perform that well and lack of drinking water can make backpackers more susceptible to hypothermia and altitude sickness.

Expedition: The Expedition water filtration system uses a process called forward osmosis, providing clean drink without the difficult sucking or pumping typical of in-line filters, and without the use of harsh chemicals. The dual-chambered reservoir can be filled either with clean water through its round port, or quickly filled with any dirty water supply (including urine) through the wide roll-top opening for filtration. Just dip, zip and go. Very little effort or time is required of the user. And because there is no hydraulic pressure involved, the Expedition personal water filtration system will never clog, unlike every other filter technology.

benefits...

  • The highest purity levels of any personal water filter
  • Non-clogging filter means expanded water source options
  • Dilute sports drink enhances hydration and improves user performance
  • Reduces your water logistics burden by a factor of 10X

specifications...

  • Volume: 3 liters of drink - 2.5 liters of dirty water  - Produces 25 liters of drink from the 10 syrup pouches that come with the system.  Additional syrup pouches can be purchased.
  • Filter life: 30 - 90 days
  • Filter output: 1 liter an hour at 20 C - 55 F
  • User effort: Seconds to fill, no work required for filtering

Watch the X-Pack in action

Trusted during Hurricane Katrina

X-Pack: The X-Pack provides up to 55 liters of clean drink from nearly any surface water source over a ten day period.  Use nearly any water source to generate clear drink.  Purity levels are comparable to reverse osmosis systems, and the filter meets EPA standards for the removal of biological pathogens (viruses, bacteria, cysts). Used by soldiers to drink the floodwaters in New Orleans, you can trust the X-Pack to provide safe and simple filtration wherever you are.

how it works...

The X-Pack is simple enough for a child to use.  Just put dirty water into the red port, and one sports syrup charge into the green port. That's it. The water will be filtered by the advanced forward osmosis membrane as it is drawn into the X-Pack's inner chamber.  When the process is complete, simply pour the clean drink out and restart the system.  No purifying chemicals are required, nor is any power input needed other than the sports drink syrup charges that drive the filtration process by osmosis.  The X-Pack will reduce water logistics by a factor of 15, and provide safe, hassle-free fluids from even muddy sources without clogging.

 specifications...

  • Volume: 1.8 water
  • Filter life: 10 days
  • Filter output:
1 liter (one pint) in 4 hours - 1 liter per syrup pack - comes with ten syrup packs to create 10 liters of drink
  • User effort:
Seconds to fill, no work or electricity required for filtering

 benefits...

  • The highest purity levels of any personal water filter
  • Non-clogging filter means expanded water source options
  • Dilute sports drink enhances hydration and improves user performance

Learn More about the Expedition and X-Pack Emergency Seawater Desalination Backpacking Gear Kit.

Expedition and X-Pack is a revolutionary concept in emergency water ideal for backpacking and all outdoor activities. Powered by forward osmosis and our unique membrane filter, the Expedition and X-Pack emergency water supply kit rejects 97% of salt and generates a lifesaving fluid containing 20% sugar while providing 480 calories per half liter.

The Expedition and X-Pack is a small, lightweight, portable water desalinator that stows away easily inside of a backpack or camping gear. Expedition and X-Pack boasts simplicity of operation: Inject one 4 oz grape syrup charge into the green port and fill the Expedition and X-Pack with saltwater through the red port. Nature takes over from there, osmotically drawing sweet fresh drinking water through the emergency water membrane filter while rejecting sea salts, bacteria, viruses and heavy metals.

Each Expedition and X-Pack emergency water kit contains enough syrup charges to produce 2.5 liters of water survival drink.

Additional charges may be purchased and the Expedition and X-Pack emergency water kit can be used over again.

During an emergency water situation while backpacking, hiking or camping reliability and simplicity are vital. The Expedition and X-Pack emergency water kit makes a perfect survival drink for backpacking and all outdoor excursions. Expedition and X-Pack filters salt water, brackish water, even muddy water or questionable fresh water and makes a clean drink. The key to the Expedition and X-Pack’s reliability is its ease of operation. Simply fill the emergency water kit's filter red port with seawater (dirty water) and squirt one of the enclosed syrup bottles into the green port. The forward osmosis membrane filter does the work for you. Pure water molecules are attracted to the electrolytes (sugars) in the syrup and they pass through the pores of the membrane. The pore size is 3-5 angstroms (0.3-0.5 billionths of a meter) so emergency water molecules can pass through and 97% of salts are rejected*.  Mud and all pathogens (viruses, bacteria, cysts) are also rejected to EPA standards. Purity levels of Expedition and X-Pack emergency water supply for backpacking are similar to costly reverse osmosis machines. Since there is no pumping, the Expedition and X-Pack emergency water kit never clogs and requires no energy to operate other than the osmotic pressure that the syrup provides. Safe, Simple, Reliable and an ideal compliment to your backpacking gear.
